Amakye Dede Opens Up: "I Was Forced to Crown Kuami Eugene as 'New King of Highlife'"

 

Amakye Dede, the renowned Ghanaian Highlife music legend, recently made a surprising revelation about his role in crowning Kuami Eugene as the "New King of Highlife."

In an interview on Asaase Radio, Amakye Dede disclosed that it was not his will to bestow the title upon Kuami Eugene during the 2019 edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. 

He claimed that he was coerced into the act, despite his initial reluctance. The Highlife genre holds significant cultural and historical value in Ghana, representing the country's rich musical heritage. 

With a career spanning several decades, Amakye Dede has established himself as a respected figure in the Highlife music scene. 

Given his stature and influence, it is understandable that his opinion on the crowning of the "New King of Highlife" carries weight. Amakye Dede expressed his reluctance to participate in the crowning ceremony and even attempted to decline the responsibility. 

He revealed that he had handed over the crown to someone else, hoping to avoid the act altogether. 

However, he was allegedly persuaded by others involved in the event to proceed with the crowning of Kuami Eugene.
